Style Guide June 2009

The Art of Shopping

Shopping is an art and once mastered can give you immense joy and satisfaction.  Indeed I hold a PhD in shopping and am well known as a Master Personal Shopper.  Knowing your style is the first step to a magnificent you but lets get you shopping smartly.  Why people have a fear of this delight in life I’m not too sure of but let me help you fix it. One of my dearest friends has a fear of shopping; she is overwhelmed with frustration when it comes to going out to buy something new; it could be the sometimes pushy or inexperienced sales assistants to not knowing where to go.  Like the food we eat, buying clothes should be equally enjoyed, so when shopping do not deny the pleasurable aspect.

Change your attitude to the shopping experience forever and allow yourself to be introduced to new and exciting brands and boutiques to suit your needs, requirements and budget.

Practise makes perfect and I have perfected this art completely.  Lets go through a simple checklist to make life easier before entering the shopping world.

  • Decide what you want to buy
  • Know what occasion and what audience
  • Set your budget
  • List 3-4 different names of places, stores and shops.

Shopping becomes much easier once you have established your colour palette and your unique style otherwise we just buy out of desperation, emotional or sale seduction.  Focus on what you are buying and don’t sway or get distracted that’s when shopping becomes lengthy, frustrating and confusing because you lose your focus.

Trying on garments are absolutely vital, you need to experience how the fabric fits on your body.  Imagine the feeling of buying your fur coat, your perfect wedding dress or a pair of shoes that give you that Cinderalla feeling.  Experience different styles and designers, brands and boutiques and experiment with finding new places to shop.

When it comes to shopping I don’t believe in online shopping.  Shopping is a real life experience that cannot be satisfied through the Internet.  However I may suggest the Internet a wonderful way of sourcing shop locations.

For those who are too busy or still have a shopping phobia I suggest that you gain help from an expert.  Personal shoppers will help you shop for your new wardrobe and advise where and what to buy and save you time, energy and effort and avoid embarrassing mistakes.

Shopping is the foreplay to looking good, so take your time and enjoy your experience, and feel pleasure each and every time as a sea of shops and wonderful styles and designers await you; now practise to perfection until you shop smart.

Next Step 2009

Recently a friend recommended I attend a seminar held by Joseph McClendon. Joseph McClendon is a close friend of Anthony Robbins and conducts the health seminar at his Unleash the Power Within. Madly in love with Anthony’s teachings I decided I was ready to embrace ‘Next Step’ with an open-mind as I am always keen to learn and develop myself. The seminar took place at the Ibis Hotel in Earls Court from Friday 12th – Sunday 14th June 2009 and I anxiously awaited the three days of Joseph would bring me.

The seminar was both interesting and entertaining.  Training our minds with simple techniques on how to manifest great things into our life through focus and determination. I learnt how to manage emotions and eliminate especially negative emotions that hold us back in life.   The most exhilarating feeling was when we had to break a plank of wood with our bare hands. The objective of the exercise was breaking the plank of wood as if we were breaking through a negative emotion. Gosh I’m strong however it was a mere test of positive mindset.

Joseph is an amazing storyteller who uses his own life experiences to educate the audience and one cannot wait to hear more.  You will surely have tears and laughter because at some point something has struck a cord in your soul.

Since applying and practising my theories. I have applied one principle and that’s more love and more support, I thought how more loving can I be, its not possible as I’m already overflowing with love and kindness but I can tell you the results are mind blowing.

Since the seminar I definitely sense people look at me differently; Comments like:-  “Your fascinating”,  “Your great” , “Love when you laugh”; but the one that made me giggle recently was  “You smell delicious”.

We all lose our direction at times. It could be busy work schedule, family politics or broken hearts.  I lost myself a bit in recent months but since the course I feel like I’ve been aligned with my true self and everything has fallen back into place. Like a chiropractor for life, Joseph has just straightened and simplified some things I had on my mind.

So when you find your purpose you will automatically become passionate about your life.  My friend recently told me I send the best text messages and that I’m good with my words.  I told him “I see with my heart and not my eyes”.  When you feel from your heart you become passionate about all that you do, and it is then that words become more powerful than mere words.  I guess that’s why I love writing as much as I do.

I met truly amazing people from around the globe at the seminar.   A special thanks to Nolan whom I met on my final day of the seminar.  Along with his four sons; so warm and full of life.  Nolan, has become more than a special friend, he reflected characteristics more like my father.
Hope to see you at the Next Step January 2010.  I will leave you with one of my favourite quotes
.

“The only remedy to love is more love”.

You Can't be Serious!!

You can't be Serious!! The famous words of John McEnroe. In the United Kingdom we see the month of June being, more sporty than ever. Horse racing in Ascot, ICC 20/20 World Cup Cricket but for me, the one and only tennis at Wimbledon is the highlight for the summer.

Wimbledon is played for two weeks with world ranking players battling it out on this grass surface game. Tennis is a sport that produces outstanding athletes as the likes of Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graff and Bjorn Borg.

Tennis is a game where there are slices, swings, back hands, speeds over 138 mph and new balls please!!! We love drama but most of all just amazing endurance and will power by these players. 2009 Wimbledon also see’s the new covered roof protecting us from the rainfall we witness each year.

A spectacular finale weekend for the finals. Saturday for the ladies and Sunday see’s the men’s, and both played on centre court. The turn out is always a great one with famous personalities and Royals.

I’m sure Murray madness will hit the UK this year but my predictions for Wimbledon 2009 see’s a battle of the William sisters for the women’s final. I’ve put my money on Serena Williams this year to win. Serena is my favourite player because she simply plays like a warrior. When it comes to playing she is focused, determined and no doubt her skill, her force and accurate aim has gained her 10 glam slam titles to her name, lets hope she makes it her 11th title. What can one say about Roger Federer; currently equal to the record of Pete Sampras record of 14 grand slams. I can see him back to win the 15th grand slam title and become the greatest player in history.

What Tennis teaches me is that you must have conviction in yourself and a will to win, then nothing is impossible in this sport, this theory also goes the same for anything we may do in life.

Enjoy the next two weeks ahead and hope its full of sunshine.

Men's Tote Gym Bag

You may be asking why do men need a designer bag??  Well indeed they do!  Men’s accessories can reveal important details about a man, just as important as the watch on their wrist.  The gym is a great place to meet and greet people and why shouldn’t you want to look your best there also.

This accessory needs to compliment your lifestyle because style doesn’t just stop at the clothes you wear.  Choose a bag that suits your lifestyle and sports activities, for body builders to kick boxers, I have selected this Emporio Armani EA7 range bag that is both practical and aesthetic.

Emporio Armani EA7:  This is definitely the bag you want to take to the gym or club, and it doubles as an overnighter or weekender.   It features an exterior access shoe/wet pocket, and numerous organizer pockets.  Made from AE7 signature ballistic nylon. This bag is available in black with an elegant contrasting white logo on the sides.  This duffel style bag offers easy access to the main compartment and a removable, adjustable shoulder strap.

Michael Jackson

June 25th and its six in the morning. My brother in law who left for work called my sister and my sister who was up with the children then called me. I picked up the phone to hear that Michael Jackson’s dead.  Still half asleep, I switched on the television to hear the news.  Sadness filled my heart. I may not have known Michael Jackson but his songs surely gave me great memories and energy for the gym!!

Dubbed the "King of Pop", Michael was an American musician and one of the most commercially successful entertainers of all time. His unique contributions to music and dance, along with a highly publicized personal life, made him a prominent figure in popular culture for four decades.

A double-inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his other achievements feature multipleGuinness World Records — including the "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time" — 13 Grammy Awards, 17 number one singles (including the four number ones with Jackson 5), and estimated sales of over 750 million records world-wide.  He was also a notable philanthropist and humanitarian who donated millions of dollars to 39 charities, and also raised money through his own Heal the World Foundation.

This month I would like to recommend Michael Jackson music to you so we can all celebrate his fine contributions to music.
