Style Guide February 2009

Style Guide February 2009

Styling Your Emotions

February’s styling rule is ‘Styling your Emotions’. We are all going through some financial hardship these days with the credit crunch. Therefore, it is vital to make more intelligent decisions.  In spite of this, it is very important to keep an up-to-date wardrobe, look smart and sharp at business and social events.  So let’s start by saving you some serious money.

How to avoid emotional buying?  Avoid buying anything when you are upset. Do not buy outfits in the sales or promotions because 8 out of 10 times you will find these purchases are waste of money and bought merely because you like the look of them.  So when you go shopping next time try keeping your occasion and budget in mind.

Importantly, you know what clothes suit you best, so avoid shopping with your friends.  Friends can sometimes influence your choice but what looks good on them may not look good on you because you may not share the same colour palette or body shape.  Share time with friends catching up over lunch, go out dancing or go to the movies. This is for my lovely friends, I’ll join you at the movies and get that Cineworld pass made up, lol!  Next movie to watch is ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic.

If you are having trouble making choices, then take up the services of a personal shopper. They have the skills of what will enhance your uniqueness and offer knowledge of a variety of shops and different brands.

Look out for the March’s edition of style guide, when I will be looking at how colour plays an important role in creating masterpieces. Enjoy the movie!!!

Health & Vitality

Mind Muscles

Before life takes over and it’s the end of another year, cultivate that creativity of your mind!  I was told do something different each day otherwise life will become a big boring routine day in day out.  Growth and personal development is what we need to be successful.  So challenge your mind and do something different daily, lets make mind muscles!  For example, join a new club or take up a hobby, go to the art gallery, read an interesting novel or take up dancing classes or learn a new language.

I love those words of internationally renowned inspirational speaker Iyanla Vanzant ,
“Cancel Cant”.  Believe me you can do anything you put your mind to.   You can, you are able and you will.

I attended an Anthony Robbins weekend seminar called LPW  (Unleash the Power Within) where Tony made us all walk over hot burning coals.  Crazy but worth it; we accomplished the mission impossible through exercising mind over matter.  Direction, focus and unlimited belief, creates mind muscles.  I also recommend Anthony Robbins, ‘Date with Destiny’ but try attending in Palm Springs its just so much more lovely.

I also recommend ‘The Secret’.  Another sensational DVD about positive thinking and visualisation.  Bob Proctor one of the speakers, one of my favourite and who lifts your spirits with his charming personality and wise words.  You will love it.!

Trust me,  ‘UPW’ and ‘The Secret’ are lifetime investments. Those people who have studied these concepts and theories have a different mindset, body language and presence, which is instantly noticeable.  Read books, listen and watch DVD’s, put some good into you.

Record your Greatness!
There are only two types of people in the world, followers and leaders, become a leader !!   Take control and delete stress from your body, stress and worry are only negative emotion and a total waste of time and energy that need to be divorced immediately.  Indeed the saying is true “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”, so learn from these valuable lessons because these lessons will shape your future decisions.

As we become stronger and more successful why not record these achievements.  I recommend writing a journal daily and fill it up with only happy things, faces and places you experienced.
When you look fabulous, feel super there is no chance of feeling anything but incredible.
Love & Blessing !! xox

BELOVED KINGDOM, BELOVED MAN, BELOVED CITY, BELOVED LAND. DUBAI

Art, history and interiors; I love them all. So when friends asked me to go to Dubai, I never really jumped with joy.  My self created impression of Dubai was a man made, soulless and massive construction site, so I was never tempted to travel to that part of the world…..until now, that is.

I started 2009 by visiting some friends in Dubai to see what all the fuss was about.  On the contrary, I fell in love with Dubai over and over on a daily basis.

What does one love about Dubai?  The list is endless, Love Dubai for the sunshine, the beautiful sandy beaches, the magnificent mountains of Fujairah, vibrant nightlife, international cuisine, the incredible architecture, exhilarating desert safari and of course not to forget the amazing shopping.

However, I’m falling in love most with the hospitality of the people of Dubai.  The Emiratis captured my heart with their kind words and overwhelming generosity.  A cosmopolitan city where over 177 nationalities reside you will meet the most colourful and happy people alive.

Dream it. Design it. Dubai it!!
Dubai accepts the mission impossible of the design world, it’s got to be bigger and better than the rest of the world.  It has the only 7 Star Hotel in the world - Burj Al–Arab; the biggest Mall in the Dubai with 1,200 stores that also includes an aquarium and an ice rink.  Finally sexy structures built on the sea. i.e. The Palm and The World.  It is no wonder Dubai’s tourism is busy bubbling with success.

With more ambitious and grand architectural structures, future projects also include an Armani Hotel and luxury apartments; merely thinking of this hotel building makes me go into dreamland.
All that you could desire in a luxury holiday, complimented by a total mode of relaxation is guaranteed in Dubai.  So now I’m converted to the Dubai lifestyle and indeed will be making a return journey very soon.  So discover and enjoy for yourself the delights of the city of dreams!!

I would like to thank : -
Syed – fabulous 2009 party and also Sultan & Sheena for 2009 laughter.

Fashion Trends

Spring/Summer Fashion 2009

“Fashion is something so ugly that it needs to be changed every six months” – Oscar Wilde
London Fashion Week is upon us Feb 20-25, the time we all go catwalk crazy whilst anxiously waiting for designers to reveal their new collections.

However let me give you an update on what fashion trends we have for Spring/Summer 2009.  Mix and match these looks.  Take a trend that suits you; you don’t have to be covered in head to toe, use elements of the fashion trends and buy one or two of these pieces.  Apply a touch of fashion to be stylish and create an instant updated look to your wardrobe that suits your personality.
Five fabulous looks for this season: -

1. Block or not to block that is the question ?

Block colours refer to wearing an item of clothing made from one whole colour-one block. Block colours are great for making statements, striking and daring. Compliment your block colours with accessories.  Jewellery, broaches and scarves.
This seasons see’s some colourful footwear; highlight those killer heels with colour.
Ladies:  Dresses look great in blocks.
Gents:  Shirts and ties support this look well.

2. Acid Reign
When we look at acid colours we think about citrus fruit colours.  Fresh, tangy, striking colours to light the night.   Bright colours make you feel confidant, wear them proudly.  Great focus is on colour this season especially with the recession it seems we all are welcoming colour in our wardrobe.  Super coral is a colour that very popular.
Ladies: Dresses look fabulous and fierce.
Gents: Ties are great for making statements, however if you think wearing the acid colour shirt/jumper is too much then try a white t-shirt underneath to harmonise our look.

3. Heavy Metal
Metallic’s colours are popular with jackets and trims on clothing items and footwear.  This look is mainly seen in jewellery designs this season.
Ladies: Support this look with chunky accessories, earring are making a big comeback, bigger the better.
Gents:  Super look is metallic trims in trainers and jackets.

4. Neutral and Nude
Neutral and nude colours are a popular look this season.  This trend looks beautiful when layered with other items.  Try using a combination of textures, soft fabrics that enhances this look, giving it a romantic feel for Valentines Day.
Ladies: Create a soft look in shirts and dresses.  You can create greater impact by adding some metallic jewellery.
Gents: A nude shirt looks perfect for a day look at work however, introduce a self-print/pattern on the shirt for the evening in a shimmer fabric and look naturally charming.

5. I’m Going Dotty
Polka dots are back.  I totally love this trend; it can look from ultra chic to super funky.  It’s a classic fashion statement that reappears year after year.

Ladies:  You can wear small sized polka dots for work, in black and white.  Change that look for the evening and wear colourful larger scale dots to make a statement.
Gents: Do not avoid these dots.  Why not create a funky look, using small polka dots for the shirt and bigger polka dots in the tie, try this look it’s a confident and charming look.
All the best for those designers showcasing at fashion week !!

Flying with Happiness

Next time your other half plans to whisk you away to Paris for that romantic weekend, don’t forget to travel in style.

What is the formula for “flying with happiness?”   =
Louis Vuitton Luggage!!

This luggage is made with luxury leather, a monogram so simple and distinctive, and designs that are classic to contemporary. Always leading the avant-garde of fashion without compromising traditional craftsmanship. Keeping the collections current you will most certainly be spoilt for choice in the range of leather luxuries.

This season looks at a collection inspired by Graffiti, designed by Stephen Sprouse.  ‘Speed Graffiti’ comes in three bright acid colours: fuchsia, green and orange; truly giving life to any dull wardrobe.  Priced at £655.

Do you have a Mr.Faithful?  Mr. Faithful to me is when nothing else works with an outfit or a look, you know that Mr. Faithful will always be there for you and never let you down. I wasn’t an immediate fan of Louis Vuitton but now totally addicted to the monogram multicolour collection. My pochette is my Mr. Faithful of all handbags. Perfect for all the necessities on an evening out. I can get my lipstick and mirror; mobile and money to fit in this perfectly sized for a night out handbag. I bought my first Louis Vuitton pochette in Prague some years ago and I have never looked back.

However I recommend the popular and classic ’pejase’ suitcase in damier canvas perfect for travelling to sunny climates. Available in three sizes and three prices.

50” - £1,090, 60” - £1,280, 70” - £1,730

Another item I just don’t travel without is my ‘pink monogram shawl’; it’s warm and protects me from the cold or windy weather and looks incredibly sexy. Available in a range of colours. Priced at £250.

My friend told me when once travelling on a business trip, there was a mix up with his seating on the flight.  He said that Customer Services upgraded him without hesitation.  His charming personality or good looks I hear you say, hhmmmm, nope.  Reason being they couldn’t take their eyes off his Louis luggage.

I can’t guarantee an upgrade on your next flight but I can guarantee that Louis Vuitton has mastered the art of travel.

London to long haul, I would like to invite you to fly with happiness; partner or partner-less, don’t worry you have Mr. Faithful.
Love Your Louis!!!
