Celebrity Style - Mumzy Stranger
Name: Mumzy Stranger
Occupation: Singer / Song writer / Dancer
Location: Victoria & Albert Museum, South Kensington, Serpentine Hyde Park
This feature of Celebrity Style is to highlight ‘Moguls’ in their field of work.
I recently experienced the London Mela for the first time since moving to London. As a music lover and enjoying the Mela sounds, I heard a fabulous beat coming from the stage and immediately stopped to indulge in these desi-reggae funky tunes. Who was the performing artist? Black, Asian or white? I dragged my friends nearer to the stage and danced crazy for the rest of the performance.
So I discovered the performer was Mumzy Stranger, a young man with the most interesting voice from an Asian artist that I have heard in a long time. What I loved about Mumzy’s performance was his flexibility; no one in the music industry can do what he does. He swayed the crowd to whatever style he felt like: - Reggae, Soul to MC and then the finale song was complimented with H Dhami to add that desi-lious charisma. I was truly impressed by the musical talents of Mumzy Stranger and decided I needed to investigate further.
It’s 3.00 am and I’m still listening to Mumzy, hooked on ‘Runaway’ and ‘Showgirl’. I hear musical influences of Joe, Usher, and Sean Paul. Mumzy flows from each musical genre effortlessly creating characters for each tune. I downloaded ‘Let’s Party’ from ITunes as its now my warm-up track for the gym.
So the next day I made arrangements to go and meet Mumzy in the studio to discuss background and the meaning of ‘Mumzy Stranger’. Mumzy is derived from Mumith; and ‘Stranger’ someone who is unfamiliar to the Industry. Mumzy started his career as a teenage bedroom producer, practising his passion for years. Until his friend sent a demo for the BBC Asian Network unsung competition and was shortlisted to work with Rishi Rich. Rishi a ‘Music Mogul’, a talented and world famous Producer working with international and mainstream artists such as Westlife, Estelle and Mary J Bilge.

Mumzy and Rishi Rich working in the studio, (no styling for studio shoot).
What you don’t know is that Mumzy has also co-written a lot of his debut album with Veronica. Veronica’s stunning soul could only create such heartfelt and genuine lyrics. Please listen carefully to the words of ‘Runaway’; it captured my heart perfectly.
Mumzy’s innovative and unique style makes him an ideal role model for young people. MAD (Media, Art & Design) Mentors is a youth educational project that helps young people achieve a career in the creative industries. Mumzy is the first and only artist of Bangladeshi descent to have entered the mainstream British music industry, making him an inspiration to young people. Mumzy has a great connection with youth and always contributes positively to helpings his community.
Mumzy has his own unique style that sets him apart from everyone else. His swagga style in his movement and sounds create mesmerizing and everlasting impressions. I predict Mumzy Stranger to ‘Mumzy Super Star!’ Working with Music Mogul Rishi Rich, Mumzy has no option other than success, as Moguls only produce magnificence!!
I wish Mumzy and Rishi Rich Productions all the success with this debut album and also in all their future projects!!
Thank you for being such an inspirational role model to us all!
